About the Poet
» Jennifer Grigg is an American who has lived in England for twenty years. She has worked in the art world as a writer and researcher and has published poems in many magazines and journals.

In collaboration with the popular literary blog E-Verse Radio, Tollund Inc., an international legal translation firm, is happy to announce the winners of the second annual Tollund Poetry Translation Prize.

Translators are asked to recreate an English-language poem into one of three Nordic languages, Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian. Tollund Poetry Translation Prize judges select the poems for translation (this year, three by Jennifer Grigg) and the choose the best in each language based on translator creativity, resourcefulness, and skill.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who submitted translations in the three languages. Our key criteria for this prize are quality and linguistic inventiveness. In the end, we were not 'moved' by the Norwegian entries and therefore decided not to give out the prize for Norwegian this time and instead award two prizes in the Danish category.

Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark, herself a well-respected translator of Simone de Beauvoir, sent us a letter regarding the Danish translations and original poem (Danish version/English version).

WINNERS:

Danish Winning Entry I: Tine Haurum. Tine Haurum was born and raised outside Copenhagen, Denmark. Tine is an English to Danish translator who lives in the foothills of Los Angeles in Southern California with her husband and teenage son. Tine made her way from Denmark to California almost 17 years ago, first staying in Santa Barbara. With a background in visual arts, she has a passion for poetry and literature and loves working in translation. In any given week Tine might proofread Danish subtitles for feature films, translate product manuals, audio scripts, patient brochures, and with singular enthusiasm — poetry and prose.
